MirNat is a Start Up Company, established in 2012 by a scientific team from the University of Rome Tor Vergata with specific interests in Pathology, Genetics, Pharmacology and Bioinformatics.
We develop industrial prototypes derived from basic scientific research on plant microRNAs by using “soft” (bioinformatics programs), “hard” (pharmaceuticals) and “friendly” (nutraceuticals) approaches.
Through our team of researchers, MirNat has identified and patented microRNAs with beneficial effects in a wide range of pathologies. The delivery of such molecules through natural micro-vesicles is currently under evaluation in murine model and subsequently human clinical trials phase.

Laure Deutou was born in Banka (West Region of Cameroon) on 09 February1986.
Her high education was completed at the University of Yaoundé where she obtained the Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry in 2009. She then obtained the Master’s degree in Immunology at the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé. During her thesis, she worked on the contribution of immunochromatography techniques in the detection of human African trypanosomiasis in Cameroon.
From 2018, she is a PhD student in immunology, molecular biology and applied biotechnology, at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Her project is focused on the profile of immuno and inflammatory microRNAs in COVID-19 patients and the potential cross-kingdom role of plant microRNAs in the regulation of the lung inflammation.
Since December 2016, she also manages the didactic laboratory of the Evangelical University of Cameroon.
Ivana was born in Belgrade on 9th of September 1982.
She is a cell and molecular biologist specialized in immunology. She graduated in 2006 at the University of Belgrade in Molecular biology and physiology, and got her PhD in 2010 in Cellular and molecular biology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Her areas of research expertise include regulation of inflammatory response to infections and neuropharmacology. In 2011, Ivana moved from the academia to industry to work on design and preclinical and clinical development of natural extracts and dietary supplements with anti-aging properties. She began working in patent law in 2013, while preparing a patent application for anti-age plant extracts and has been actively engaged in intellectual property in biotechnology since. In 2018 she completed a two-year course in European Patent Law at Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies of University of Strasbourg. Ivana has been a member of the MirNat team since 2016, when she joined the Company as the Intellectual Property Protection Consultant. Currently, she is working at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
Giulia Carrera was born in Rome on 04 February 1999.
Her high education has been at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where she obtained in 2021 the Bachelor’s Degree of Biological Sciences with a thesis focused on quantification of anti-inflammatory microRNAs in covid19 patients for the development of new therapeutic approaches.
She is currently involved in research activity about human and plant microRNAs and their modulation of immunologic pathways.
Flavia was born in Rome on the 3 July 1960.
She is married with two daughters. Her high education has been at the University of Rome La Sapienza where she took the degree in Biological Sciences with full merit in 1984. At the same University, FDG has been enrolled in the PhD course in Experimental Medicine at the Laboratory of Immunology and Pathology of the Faculty of Biological Sciences. During the PhD course, she was involved in the study of the autoreactivity and vaccine development in human tuberculosis with 3 publications in international journals. FDG obtained the PhD title in Experimental Medicine in 1990 and after, she moved from science to art by enrolling on the Art Academy in Rome on Internal Decoration. FDG worked as interior decorator in Italy and England where had been resident for many years. In 2005, FDG has been involved in the decoration of the International Reference Centre for AIDS in Yaounde (Cameroon) and she started to be interested again in science and traditional medicine (medical plants). In 2012, FDG founded the research & development company MirNat and is now acting as Manager for Scientific relations and Commercial partnerships.
